Task Bar not loading - and related difficulties

Immediately following a windows update and reboot this
morning, I'm having serious trouble with the O/S.

Upon reboot, I receive the following error:

"HPAIO device object server
registerclassobjects failed: hRes=0X800706F7
The stub received bad data
Maximum retry attempts exceeded"

Clicking OK on the error box allows XP to continue loading
but the task bar never loads and programs in the task bar
have further problems as well.

All help appreciated :)
