Icons and bottom bar will not load

I am in the process of building a moderate gaming computer for my grandson.
Windows XP HE SP2 worked just fine before I installed the sound card and
it’s drivers and before I installed the motherboard related drivers (i.e. USB
2, Nvidia
chipset, LAN, etc) and ASUS PC Probe II. After installing those items I
rebooted the computer and only the background screen came up, the program
icons and bottom bar did not load. I then rebooted and the same thing
happened, the background screen came up, but no icons and bottom bar. I
rebooted again and this time the icons and bottom bar loaded. So I get no
icons and bottom bar when I generally boot from a shut down computer, but
when I restart the computer the icons and bottom bar will load.
Another thing I have noticed that at the Welcome screen
that if it hangs there for more then two or three seconds the
program icons and bottom bar will not load.

I thought maybe if I start removing the motherboard drivers that
this might ID the problem or sort of solve the problem. Does
anyone think this is the way to go or is there another solution
to this problem.

Maybe in the long run I will have to start all over again and reload
Windows XP and all the other drivers and software.

Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Paul

Hi karel3,

Try uninstalling ASUS PC Probe II.
By the bottom bar, do you mean the taskbar that contains the Start button?
Is there a blue line there instead? In which case you can "pull it up" with
a left button mouse drag.
Or it the recycle bin not even there?

That would be a start.

Thanks for the response.
Yes, I am refering to the taskbar. There is no blue line across the bottom
and there is no irecycle bin -- all there is is the background screen or
picture in my case.

Hi,

Can you start you PC in safe mode? (Reboot and hold down F8 until the menu
appears).
