Task Bar Icons Near The Clock

Windows XP Pro SP2. All Updates complete.
P4 3.2 GHz
2 GB RAM

I just Reformated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows.

I have been downloading some programs and reinstalling. Including TweekUI.

At first, all the icons were there but I somehow lost the icons that are at
the bottom of the task bar near the clock/time (Far Right Corner). - Not the
Quick Launch taskbar.

I am using the Classic Start Menu, and Using Windows Classic Theme.

In Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, the "Hide inactive icons" box is
unchecked and grayed out - inaccessable, as is the "Customize" button next to
it.

Though I looked through all the settings that I can think of, I don't know
what I changed to have lost those icons. I went throught the TweekUI setting
as well, and see nothing that would have caused this.

Can anyone help me figure out how to restore those icons near the clock?

You will get different solutions to this problem. If any one of them fixes
the problem then you will be set, but if nothing you will try works, try my
solution....

This may sound unrelated, but it worked for number of people:

Open My Network Places. On the right hand side, you will find "Network
Tasks". Look for "Hide icons for networked UPnP devices" in this section. If
this item indicates that clicking on it will UnHide the icons then go no
further. Click on this item and proceed....

Thanks Pavel,

I tried what you suggested, but it had no effect. Thank You, all suggestions
are welcome and I do learn from each.

Some Good stuff there, but it didn't work. I tried all applicable. Still the
icons near the clock are missing. Some of them were quite useful.

Make sure that the programs that are displayed as icons in the tray actually
run. Do this by examining your Processes in Task Manager and also examining
the actual notifications by examining them using the Custom
Notifications/Current Items. If the program is not available in the Current
Items then it is not running Also, whatever you do, make sure to reboot
after making any changes.
