Task Bar Can't Remember...

P

Pierre De Santis

After using WinXP SP1 on this PC since WinXP first came out, I've suddenly
encountered a problem where some of the properties of the Task Bar are lost
when I reboot. Specifically the Quick Launch toolbar and auto hide.
Everytime I reboot the task bar goes into auto-hide, and the Quick Launch
toolbar does not appear. I manually turn off the auto-hide, and select Show
Quick Launch, hit APPLY, then OK. It looks okay until the next reboot, then
the Quick Launch toolbar is once again gone, and the task-bar is back in
Auto-Hide mode. Any ideas?

Hi Pierre,

Right-click Taskbar > Toolbars. Do you see a "Search Assistant" in the listing?

Also, post back what is listed in this part of the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Value: Userinit

(Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT to launch the Registry Editor.)

Ramesh...
Thanks for the reply.

"Search Assistant" not listed as an option. Only Address, Windows Media
Player, Links, Desktop, Quick Launch, and New Toolbar.

As for the regedit results you wanted, Userinit returns: Type: REG_SZ,
Data: C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

It looks fine, but just a corrupted registry settings. Try this fix:

Line 164. Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality
