Tapering lines

I'm trying to make PowerPoint do something it isn't intended to do, but it's
the only graphics program I have, so I'm kind of stuck. I'd appreciate any
help you can give me.

I'm trying to copy my father's signature to have engraved on his headstone.
The monument people say that a scanned image isn't good enough for them to
copy -- they need a vector image. I scanned Dad's signature, and then using
AutoShapes - LIne - Curve, I drew a line over the lines in his signature. I
used Edit Points to make the line accurate. My problem is that the line I
drew is the same thickness end to end, but the lines of his signature taper
in places.

Is there any way to select a segment of the line and make it taper?

Thanks,

Fred

You'll not do it in Power Point. You need a graphics program with an auto
trace function, something like Corel Draw.

You don't want to trace the pen strokes, you want to trace the OUTLINE of the
pen stroke. It's kind of hard to explain w/o scribblies but imagine that
you're tracing a perfectly straight horizontal line. Zoom in close enough and
you'll see that it looks like a long, narrow rectangle. To trace it, you'd
trace around the edges of the rectangle.

You'll need to do that for the signature ... trace around the edges of the
penstrokes. As Michael says, though, PPT isn't the best tool for this.

If you can find a small sign shop, they may have software that can autotrace
this for you.

Or there are services on the web that'll do the trace for a moderate fee.

Thanks for the information. Very interesting e-mail address you list, Steve.
I guess that makes sure all your spam gets sent to the right address?

Bingo. Got it in one, Fred. ;-)

Spammers do make a habit of harvesting addresses from newsgroups, so it's a bad idea
to publish a live address.
