Connecting motion paths

Can you help me? I am using custom animation in PowerPoint to show
the movement of an object. The motion paths consist of straight lines
and curves. Every time I add to the path the new motion green arrow
wants to attach to the end arrow of the segment prior to the last one
I drew, instead of the to the end of the last one I drew. I have
turned off snap to object and snap to grid and alternately turned them
on. This does not change the behavior. This very annoying to say the
least since I have to play with things more to get the motion paths to
link smoothly.

Can you suggest what I can do to get the right snap to operation I
desire?

In PowerPoint 2007:

Snap to other objects is should snap to the nearest object point and snap to
grid should snap to nearest grid line/intersection. Order of insertion won't
matter.

Try turning off Snap to grid and turning on Snap to other objects. Then
click to select your motion path and move your motion path a little farther
right/left than the desired position. It should snap back to connect.
