talking between different Win versions

I have local net problems between a Win2KSP4 machine, a Win7HP
machine, and a Win Vista machine. I'll be asking about these one at a
time.

First, my Win7 machine can see the Win2K machine but it asks for login
credentials. I supply my normal user & password and check the
"remember it" box but it doesn't work. Poking around with the
Internet Zones doesn't help. And, I disabled the firewall on Win7.

What do I have to do to let the connection get set up?

NB: The Win7 machine can see the disk on the Vista machine.

You need to modify a registry entry on your Windows 7 machine - see here:

"social"? Why would the OP need an M$ dating service?

'cause he wants two lonely installations of Windows to share certain things
with each other!

YES! In that article the advise by "rtoledo2002" was:

1. Run the registry editor and open this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
LmCompatibilityLevel
3. Set the value to 1
4. Reboot

I added the key to Win7 and Win2K machines. Win7 machine can now see
the Win2K machine.

The Vista machine had the key with value 3 so I changed it to 1.
Vista can see Win7 and Win2K, also. But, neither of those can use
the Vista machine.
