Tablet, Excel 2003, Vista compatibility problem

Hi,
hoping for help. A big table that I set to print print out on legal paper
across two pages and then down (i.e. across and then down, setting to print
two pages across by 16 down) does not transfer over from my XP/Excel 2003
setup onto my new Vista-running Fujitsu Lifebook Tablet-series. When running
in tablet mode, the file that was working fine in XP wants to print out onto
some 2,300+ pages. And when I went in to look at the page setup, I got a
constant warning loop (bug?) of "margins don't fit" which wouldn't let me
click OK to get out of it, causing me to have to exit out of the doc w/out
saving anything and restart the doc. I did this three times w/ same results.

I then restarted the tablet to run in normal PC mode (hoping this was
something to do w/ the display). This time when I opened up the doc into
Excel, the doc initially seemed to display better, but when I went into print
preview, I ran into the same problem of splintering into 2,300+ pages, and
the problem with the margins warning that I couldn't get out. I then ran the
compatibility program, to set the Vista settings back to Win XP, and
unchecked everything that can possibly be unchecked. Same problem: when I
went to print preview, the document splitering into 2,300+ pages (all blank,
by the way), and a constant loop (bug) of "margins don't fit" occurred until
I had to exit the doc and restart it, occurred three times. I went back into
the compatibility program twice turning things on and off without any other
changes in results.

Keeping the XP settings, I then went in to reformat the doc from scratch. I
reformatted everything set print area, modified the column sizes which had
somehow gotten bigger than I had originally set them, re-set the columns to
print, etc. Think I figured out that the function for printing across then
down or setting the document to print XYZ number of pages across or down does
not work (i tried both settings). Whenever I set it to print out across two
pages, the document splinters into the 2,300+ pages again. I have cheated,
and set the document to print at 90% of it's size, which will allow me to
print it out across three pages, and then down. However, a document like
this won't really satisfy the users since it is too bulky. Any higher life
forms know a work-around? or which side of the fence to contact for help?
sigh. . . Otherwise am liking the Vista tablet experience.

I'm certainly not guaranteeing this as a solution, but it couldn't hurt to
try that same sheet in OpenOffice.org - it might print properly.
 
Interesting! Did not know about the open office effort. Am downloading it
now & will report back. Many thanks for the suggestion.

So I downloaded and installed the open office program, launched the file in
their version of excel and it displayed perfectly first time out. Hooray!
I'm making this the default app for spreadsheets on this computer for now.
