Table of Contents/Style

I have several style headings in a document that I am
using. When I try to set up the table of contents, not
only do the paragraph headings appear in the TOC, but all
of the text in the paragraph that is next to each of the
headings. If I try to change the style of the paragraph,
the style of the heading also changes. Does anyone know
how I can get my TOC to just have the paragraph headings?
