When I run the system information tool I receiv ethe following message:
"Cant' Colllect Information - Failed connection to this computer. Check to
see that the Winmgnt service is running."

Then, if I run the Help and Support Center/ Pick a Task-Use Tools and select
My Computer Information, any of the selection clicked will show that it is
collecting system information, but hangs saying "Invalid Namespace".

Are these related? How can I solve this?

Bob

Hi Bob,

The two problems certainly could be related and it would appear there is an
issue with Windows Management Intrumentation (WMI). Have you checked to
see that the service is running? You can do this through Computer
Management. In Computer Management, open Services and Applications in the
left pane and then click on Services below that. You'll see a list of all
the services running on the machine in the right pane. Scroll down the the
bottom and look for 'Windows Management Instrumentation' (widen the Name
column so you can see the whole name). The Status column for that service
should indicate Started and the Startup Type column should indicate
Automatic. If yours does not match this, double click the service to open
the properties and make sure the 'Startup type' is Automatic. You can then
start the service. Click OK to save changes and try to run System
Information again.
