Systray icon won't stay hidden

One of my icons in the systray, "local area connection speed", is set to stay
hidden. However, every time I reboot, that darn thing comes back and is set
to hide when inactive. This isn't the hugest thing in the world, but an
annoyance because I like to keep that area uncrowded.

Try setting to NOT display LAN icon, then resetting to display, and try
hiding it again. ControlPanel/NetworkConnections/LocalAreaConnection
(right-click > Properties). I leave mine displyed all the time - alerts me if
I have connection problems - especially handy when using wireless network.

The notification icon hide/display feature is notoriously buggy. The LAN
icons are some of the most problematic. I just try to ignore it now.

You are brilliant! I just went in to the control panel like you said and set
it to not display - problem solved! I didn't realize that there were two
places to make that choice. !!
