Icons do not stay hidden

Hello,

I have two icons that appear next to my clock that will
not stay hidden after a reboot. They are the local area
connection unplugged and a bass switch for the sound
system. I can hide them using the taskbar properties and
mark them as 'always hide' but after I reboot, they show
back up. Is there a way to stop this setting from
resetting? I do not want to disable either function and
there are a number of other icons that remember the
proper 'always hide' setting.

The system is a toshiba laptop with WinXP Pro.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The local area connection unplugged is there to let you
know that you have no internet access.
If you no longer have access to the internet and will
use your PC strictly offline, try this, in XP go to Start
then Control Panel chose Network connections and on "Local
Area Connections" right click and chose disable (if you
reconnect to the internet do the opposite, (if you have
problems after a reboot you may need to right click with
the repair option). Next Open IE and choose File in the
top left and choose Work Offline.
For the speaker icon again go to Start, Control Panel
then the speaker icon and uncheck the box that says place
speaker icon in taskbar.

I am still unsure of Local Area Connection problem.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I also have a Cisco wireless card so I do maintain a
LAN/internet connection. The Bass icon is apart and not
effected by the speaker icon. The speaker can either
stay hidden or be removed by the process you mention.

Sorry I can help you about the Unplugged local area
netowrk icon using a Lan.
But a question about your Bass icon, could it be from
your sound card software or another software you installed?
You should be able to identify which program it came from
and if you can't find a setup/tools/options/preferences
area, you should be able to find or post the question on
thier website.
