Systray driving me nuts. Anyway to get just one size so that QuickLaunch bar also stays put??

This new and supposedly improved feature is driving me nuts. Is there
any way to get the systray to stay one size? If I have a lot running
and therefore there are a lot of icons, so be it, they should all show
up.

Also, for years now I've parked the QuickLaunch bar to the left of the
systray. And for years I always had -- even in Win2K -- just the
first 4 icons of the QL showing. I like and need it that way. That's
why I started parking it there. To the right of the start button and
it would start to eat up taskbar real estate. This other way, I've
always named my first 4 most used programs in such a way so that they
always show up and the rest are accessible via the arrow button. That
was great. But with this new floating size for the sytray and the new
unstableness of the display of the QL, I'm using up more valuable
taskbar real estate than is at all necessary.

So, to reiterate, is there any to get the systray to show _all_ icons
and not to slide all the time. I don't need to have any hidden. And
can we make the QL display only 4 icons at all times, just like in
Win2K and Win98SE?

Thanks very much in advance.

Cheers.

For your first query, on getting systray to show all icons

Start > Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu > uncheck hide inactive icons

Amazing, thanks! That did the trick and even fixed the length of the
QL bar! Darn XP. So many things to switch off and change that I hope
I don't have to wipe/reinstall anytime soon. Just to get it to the
functional stage that Win98SE comes to right out of the box! <g>

p.s., I've worked on other XP boxes and I'd never seen that option
before. I found it actually under one extra step, so I don't know if
these things differ between XP version and XP version:
START > CONTROL PANEL > APPEARANCE AND THEMES > TASKBAR AND START MENU

Also, I usu. get to that menu via right-clicking on the START button
in this way:
right click on START > PROPERTIES > TASKBAR tab > de-select HIDE
INACTIVE ICONS.

Very kewl! Thanks. :blush:D
