systhem shutdown!

Hi

this morning i wanted to log on to our domain, but it wasn't available
The server was off. There had been no problems with power, the sys log sayed the previous shutdown was unexpected
The only weird thing was that when i opened the sec log it took a while to load it, and the server somehow made a new one. Does a win2k server shutdown when the sec log is corrupt? I don't have the gpo setting enabled to shut down the system when sec log becomes full

any ideas as to why the server shut itself down

Have you got all the anti Sasser patches installed?

The server is protected by a firewall, the sasser worm can not infect it, also i have not set the option to halt the system when sec log becomes full
The only message was that the previous shutdown was unexpected, no power outtage, stop error, nothing

Hi - I don't see the original message thread, but have you patched the
server with all critical updates/SPs to make sure it's not vulnerable? A
firewall is not a panacea.....also - do you have a good UPS with a
management cable/software on this server?

Hi

the server does not have the latest updates. It has a ups from apc with the software installed etc. The server has not shutdown since then. I searched on the KB from veritas and found that if you are running backupexec with apc powerchute 4.51 installed on it, the backup operation can trigger the auto shutdown function of APC Powerchute
Upgrading to version 4.52 should fix this problem

thanks for helpin
