systemced error - DC - rebuild?

Hello All,

I am troubleshooting a problem on a system that I am unfamiliar with. I
have been called in to fix the problem on a network that I do not administer
(At least currently).

The network is a Win2000 network. There are two domain controllers on this
network. One of the DC's crashed and the system file was hosed. I cannot
seem to find a backup of this file so in order to get the machine to boot I
copied the original hive over. This, of course, makes this machine a non
DC. Anyway, it boots and I can get at the data which is the important part.

My question. Is this a lost cause? Do I need to rebuild this box from
scratch? If I DCPromo this machine will it become a DC for that domain
again? If I do that should I delete the box from the domain and rejoin it
first (SID consequences?)? I've DAGS'd this and have found nothing
referencing this scenario (ie restoring the DC role). Any info on this
would be helpfull. I could rebuild the machine - but if I can just get a
secondary DC online quick that would ge the way I would like to go (At least
to get me through Christmas without having to work OT)..

Thanks.

Nevermind, I figured it out. You do not have to rebuild the box.
