System Works 2004

I'm running XP home on a Dell Dimension 8200 with a 2 g
hard drive and 256 mb of RAM. I have installed the MS
updates to XP home as they become available, including but
not limited to SR 1.

Shortly after upgrading from System Works 2002 to System
Works 2004 and installing Norton Anti-Spam too, two things
happened.

I can not read from my CD rom drive, an NEC NR 7900A. I
can write to it though. I can't read commercial audio or
data CD's, or any CD I've previously recorded using this
setup.

I cannot read from, write to or format using my floppy
drive. The floppies aren't locked and I've tried several
of several different brands.

All connections are proper and tight. The CD ROM is set
for cable select using the jumpers on the back. Both
devices worked for about 18 months before this happened.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the floppy, the
CD Rom and the secondary IDE controller. The only
improvement from these procedures is that if I uninstall
and reinstall the CD ROM, I can read one CD, but after I
open the drive and insert another CD, the drive stops
reading.

I think this is a software problem because I ran Dell's
diagnostics outside windows and they said the devices were
working fine. And, under Windows, device manager says
everything is installed and working properly. The trouble
shootin steps outlined in device manager don't help either.

Does anyone have any ideas? And, specifically, are there
any known conflicts between Windows XP Home and Norton
System Works 2004 or Norton Anti-Spam?

Thanks

You have a two gigabyte hard drive running XP Home? That's not enough,
and I didn't think the 8200 was that old a line. That's a weird
problem, though. I would be curious to know about other people's
problems with SystemWorks 2004, since I am considering installing it on
my XP Pro computer.
