I'm not techie, but using WXP and antivirus (AVG) picked this up:
system volume
infomration/-restore{OFE9A9E5-E452-4544-8D90-1D3885E27-E66}\RP295\a0021551.exe
says trojan horse generic, my sound does not work at all, what can I do to
rectify this?

Thanks

You need to clean up your system, start by D/Ling and running these
apps from safe mode

sysclean
http://www.securityworm.com/software/homepc/antivirus/sysclean-package.html
smitfraud
http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.security.virus/2005-10/0059.html
Ad-AwareSE http://www.tucows.com/preview/236049
Once you are clean and are sure your machine is working correctly turn
off system restore, reboot re enable it then create a clean restore
point.

Nope, that would be caused by no sound adapter drivers being installed
or the sounds being muted.

ok, how do I resolve this? The pc was working fine one day now all of a
sudden I have no sound at all, all advice much appreciated. R

Hi RJ,

The System Volume Information folder is where System Restore stores it's
restore points. Restore points are created automatically every 24 hours
by default. If a system is infected with a virus or malware at the time
a restore point is being created, the restore point will contain the
infection. The infection is dormant while in this folder and can not
infect the system unless the system is restored using System Restore.
Once the system is cleaned of the infection and is operating normally,
it's time to purge all existing restore points by disabling SR and then
enabling it. After this is done, perform another scan to confirm the
infection is gone.

How to Disable and Enable System Restore:
