System Services in MSCONFIG

Following an attempt at a clean install, it appears that my system services
no longer function. The impact is a WINXP restart results in no network
services being available from a "Normal Startup".

Is there a way to re-instate the system services & enable the functionality
to be returned?

There isn't the option for a system restore as nothing exists prior to the
clean install.

Use services.msc *NOT* msconfig.exe!

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK

Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?

[[The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable
services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console
(services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is
disabling the service.

The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no
reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]

Since you may have disabled some services using msconfig...

Open the System Configuration Utility...
Start | Run | Type: msconfig | Click OK |
Services tab | Click the Enable All button |
General tab tab | Click on Normal Startup -
load all device drivers and services

After making those changes using msconfig, you need to click Apply
and Close.

Then click on: Restart.
