system restore

This morning when I turned on the computer, all of the fonts and icons were
very very small. Also, my default email had been changed from Outlook
Express to Outlook Office. I tried in vain NUMEROUS times to do a system
restore, but each time it says System Restore incomplete. I reset Outlook
express as my default, but I am puzzled as to system restore not working. I
believe the orginal problem was due to some windows updates that were
downloaded last night.

The change of your default email was undoubtedly caused by the Windows
updates you installed, specifically the junk email filter update for
Outlook. This will automatically reset both your default email and
your default address book to Outlook. This is a well known problem
that Microsoft refuses to fix, probably because they get very few
complaints about it from anyone but MVPs. It will continue to happen
every month if you have Outlook installed on your computer and you
download and install the junk email filter update for the month.

Your system restore problem will probably require that you disable
system restore completely, reboot the computer and then turn system
restore back on again. This will wipe out all of your existing system
restore points but new restore points created in the future should be
usable. See MVP Bert Kinney's System Restore pages:
http://bertk.mvps.org/index.html for more information.

Good luck
