System Restore Schedule and Retention

How can I change how often System Restore is run, and how many checkpoints
it keeps?

No! System Restore is NOT a backup program. It is used by the system to
"protect" itself, and will create a restore point, as necessary, based upon
the parameters coded into the operating system. It is not very customizable.

So based on the above, I cannot change often System Restore is run,
and I
can not change the retention.

When you say how often SR is run, are you referring to automatic restore
point creation?

By default System Restore holds restore points for a maximum of 90 days,
or until the maximum amount of disk space allocated to hold restore
points is reached. Do you want to increase this amount?

What question are you answering with the word No? I'm not clear on what
you are referencing.

I asked two simple questions:

1) Can I change how often System Restore is run? By default it is once
every 24 hours. The documentation Bert provided makes it clear the answer
to my question is no. You cannot change the automatic timing of the the
System Restore checkpoint. The administrator interface doesn't let you
change how often the System Restore checkpoint takes place, except that you
can do manual checkpoints when you want, in addition to the automatic ones.

2) Can I change how many checkpoints System Restore will keep? By default
it is 90 days worth or the lesser amount that will fit in the cache you
designate. The documentation that Bert provided makes it clear that the
answer to that question is also no. I cannot for example keep six months
of checkpoints.

I'm not clear on why you are referring to backup programs. It wasn't my
intent to create one. Having said that, allowing the customizations I am
asking for would be useful.

No to both. It runs when set to run. Retention depends upon the amount of
information copied, how frequently it is copied and the amount of disk space
you allocate for system restore.

You can only control the third item - the amount of disk space allocated..
