system restore reinstall

Hello again
I would like to tell all the nice people who were trying to help me, that my
problem was solved.
The culprit was, Avast Home Edition freeware. Uninstalling/reinstalling did
no fix it. I have used this AV for quite a while and have never had any
previous problems. I can only guess that the cause might have been one of
their updates. Nepatsfan called it right. Thanks Nep.

In order to prevent avast! from interfering with System Restore, do the
following.

Right click on the avast! icon in the notification area.
Select Program Settings from the menu that pops up.
Note: You can also go to the Start menu and launch avast! Antivirus. From the

From what I can gather, this issue will be fixed in the next version of avast!
