Every time I perform system restore, it says restoration incomplete and that
no changes have been made to the computer when there has been. My avg is
showing viruses which I delete but they come straight back. Please help.

You will need to clean up your computer first. Start by running either
Sysclean or David Lipman's Multi-AV in Safe Mode:

http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm - how to use Dave Lipman's Multi-AV
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe - Multi-AV download

Then update your AVG antivirus (and make sure it is the latest version)
and do a thorough scan with it in Safe Mode.

Afterwards, scan for non-viral malware (also in Safe Mode):

After you know the computer is clean, if System Restore still does not
work you will need to disable it and then enable it again. You will
lose all previous Restore Points, but since they have viral files in
them that will not be much of a loss.

System restore NEVER works especially when you need it. I would suggest
using standard av tools to remove the viruses.

Also I suggest using safe mode and to then use something like nav or
housecall.trendmicro.com (safe mode w/ networking) to then clean and delete
the viral infected files.

Hogwash! Your comments are not based on fact. System Restore has never
failed for me, and the majority of users.

Hi,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?
