System restore not working

I had a problem with nero dvd burning software, so to
solve the problem, I tried system restore. Upon start up I
receieved a onscreen message saying " error situation
automation error click me" and a smiley face icon in my
toolbar. I cannot get rid of this message , when opening
system restore again , all I get is a blank white page. I
tried restore from safe mode, still will not operate. I
use a Packard Bell I media 3082. The smart start on the
Packard bell will not operate either.I think I have aworm
virus from the nero software, as I cannot contact packard
bell support throuh internet explorer. It will only let me
open the home page.

Can anyone help solve this problem.

Thanks will,

I tried adding ad-ware, and spybot yesterday, but they
would not download, I did manage to install spyware
blaster, and ran a scan, which said there was none present?

if i could get system restore to work, would setting it to
the original factory settings solve this problem.

Thanks

Hi

System Restore may help - it all depends on how far back the checkpoints go.
See if you run System Restore by typing the following from Start>Run:

%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Hi Will.

I tried this, and I still cannot get system restore to
open . I only get a white blank screen when i try. This is
an OEM XP on the PAckard BEll so I do not have a cd to re-
install xp . Any other suggestions.

Thanks
Murdo

Hi

The only other way to try and get SR to run is to reinstall it - but that
will lose the existing checkpoints.
