System Restore no longer works

I recently copied and swapped my old boot drive for a new
one. After installation of the new drive System Rstore
quit working. Whenever I attempt to start it I get
a "System Restore has encountered a problem and needs to
close" popup.
The error signature reads AppName:rstrui.exe AppVer:
5.1.2600.1106 ModName:srrstr.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.1142
Offset:000095fa
I think one possibility is that it still recognized my
old drive as bootable and I made the mistake of
forgetting to stop System Restore from monitering the
drive before I reformatted it, and this caused it to
basically glitch out.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Stop it, reboot, and restart it. You will lose all existing restore points,
but at least it will be working once again.

Start/run services.msc

Scroll down to SR and double-click it. "Stop" the service, set the startup
type to disabled. Click apply/ok and reboot. Reverse the steps to reenable
it.

1. Put the in the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start , Run
3. Type the following then OK

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

You can also open Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Windows\Inf folder and right-click sr.inf (Then Install)
