System restore hidden

I've got a problem with system restore wizard. When I want to create a
restore point, I locate system restore on the start menu, click it,
click the UAC pop-up, and nothing happens. After waiting an appropriate
amount of time I locate system restore again, and click it again, and
click the UAC box, and this time an alert opens on my screen saying that
"The system restore wizard is already running. This application will now
close." I have checked the task manager and it makes no mention of the
wizard running. If I go through this drill 2 or 3 times, the restore
wizard will eventually open. Anyone got any ideas where I should look to
solve this?

Not all "ruuning stuff" appears in Task Maanger. Check the task tray - it
(System Restyore) is probably opening minimized.

AJR,

Thanks for the response. I should have elaborated a little more...

It is not in the task bar (minimized), it's not in running applications
of task manager. If I wait 2 minutes or so, and go through the process
of opening it again, and then clicking Okay when it closes itself 2 or
maybe 3 times, then it will open as a normal window.

I have more info to pass on as a clue to where the problem might be located.

If I try to access the "Create restore point" from the system restore
window, I have this problem. In other words, -Start> all programs>
system restore> create restore point. I have discovered that if I click
-Start> right click computer> properties> system protection, the problem
doesn't happen.

Perhaps it is no longer a problem as long as I have a work-around, but I
would still like to de-bug this if I could. I'm one of those that happen
to like Vista. I've had my vista machine since May and this is the most
serious problem I have had. LOL.

Thanks again...

It takes a really long time for the system restore window to open be really
patient. I don't know why.

PaulB,

Thanks for the response.

You are right, I went through the procedure and it opened in 2 minutes,
54 seconds. When I opened it through Start> right click computer, I then
have to wait a couple of minutes for it to analyze what available disks
there are to write restore points for. It would seem that when opening
it through the start menu, it is using that time to do the analysis, and
just not giving me any indication that it is working, because when it
did open the analysis was done, and it was ready to go. One would think
that at the very least I would see the mouse pointer give some
indication that something is happening.

You pointed me in the right direction, and I thank you!
