WinXPHome - SP2 - all updates - I run Avast, Comodo firewall, Adaware,
Spybot, Spyware blaster, all upto date.
Had PC for 3 years and never had a problem with System Restore
Only used System Restore very occasionally but do look at it regularly, so I
know it is usually working.
System restore will not start (from my desktop icon or
Run-Progs-Accessories-system tools-system restore)
Cannot try it in safe mode because F8 isn't working at boot up either.
Start-run-msconfig, gives - Windows cannot find msconfig
Computer managemant says System Restore is on Automatic and is running.
The reason I looked to System Restore is that recently, (maybe this last
week or so), when booting up, although desktop and icons appear just as
quickly as normal, there is an unusualy long bit of hard drive activity
which stops me running anything until its finished (whatever 'it' is)
Event Viewer is showing nothing other than :-
Event Type: Information
Event Source: SRService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 114
Date: 19/12/2006
Time: 21:01:55
User: N/A
Computer: DRONFIELDROG
Description:
System Restore monitoring was disabled on drive F:\.
which was something I instigated having reconnected a spare hard drive.
I've looked for, but not found, the help I need to restart System restore,
and would appreciate some help
