Hi,

"Access is denied" usually indicates some sort of permissions issue. Can you
give some background on what you were doing with the machine and why you are
needing to restart this service in the first place?

Hi Rick,

I deleted all the restore points after finding the Kuang2.win32 virus.
When I tried to restart System Restore, I received these errors. I've
tried resetting permissions both as user(with admin privileges) and as
administrator. Also tried reinstalling from the sr.ini file with no
success. Perhaps I didn't reset permissions correctly, but I would have
thought the reinstall would have corrected that.

Did you delete these in windows or in the Reg?

Hi Alan,

Reinstalling does not change permissions. I would delete the System Volume
Information folder, then restart the system and retry restarting the SR
service.

Hi Alan,

The policy was most likely changed by the virus.

Here are the instruction on enabling access to System Restore.

Hi Bert,

I couldn't use your registry fix because I don't have a System Restore
under WindowsNT--Maybe because I'm running XP Home instead of Pro?

After applying Kelly's registry fix, I still get the "access denied"
error. Sigh.

I appreciate everyone's help, but getting a tad frustrated. It's not
life or death, just aggravating.

This indicates that there was no policy set.

Are you logged on to an Admin account when trying to access System
Restore?

I know what you mean! We will do our best to get it straightened out.
