I have been unable to restore my system to an earlier restore point, in fact,

Try rt clicking on MyComputer>select Properties>System Restore>check box
Turn off SR on all Drives. Restart and go
back and reverse the procedure. If you have more than one partition,
turn off SR for all but the System Partition.

Hi CNN,

The first Event Log indicates System Restore is monitoring
drives/partitions other than the one Windows is installed on. Stop
System Restore from monitoring partition other than the one Windows is
installed on and retry restoring the system.

How to disable a monitored drive:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/drivedisable.html

The second Event Log indicates a restore point failed.

Please, i was of the impression that if system restore is turned off, that
all restore points are deleted. I'm trying to avoid such a situation. Am I
wrong?

Hi,

I did not say turn System Restore off! Just to disable it on all
drives/partitions other then the one Windows is installed on. The
existing restore points should stay intact.

I tried your suggestion but it still didn't work. I would like to mention at
this point that the reason I have been trying to restore my system is because
it isn't recognizing my CD drive.
Please do you have any other suggestion?
