System Restore does't execute

This problem stsrted with IE not printing with all esle Word etc. prints fine installed Mozilla and it prints fine, but when I try to run system restore it blanks the screen and then nothing. I have removed IE from the add/remove and the reinstalled, downloaded IE 6.0 and tried to install full version, the download manager just tells me that the version I have is more current and quits.
