SYSTEM RESTORE DLL Error Won't Load at all

HI All

Iv'e tried all morning and can get this fixed. When attempting to click on
System Restore I get the error box :
RUNDLL
An exception occurred while trying to run
"G:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
"G:\WINDOWS\system32\sysdm.cpl","System"

I have reinstalled SP 2 and have also tryied to run sr.inf as suggested but
files are missing. I find sr.inf on the i386 directory for SP2 but then it
can't find srframe.mmf and I can't find this any where so now I'm really
lost.

Can Anyone help me out?

Hi

Try running the sr.inf file from the windows\inf folder instead of the i386
one. The srframe.mmf file should be in the windows\system32\restore folder.

I checked that - It's not in that folder either. In fact sr(.inf) is not
there only sr and it says it's a system file (no extension). It could be I'm
missing sr.inf as well - my mistake. Any other ideas?

That's because extensions are hidden.

Open Control Panel - Folder Options - View tab, select "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types",
click OK.
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the windows\inf folder.

Bert is referring to another setting. Please check the post again.

Alternately, here is the command-line (also uses the sr.inf file) which
reinstalls System Restore.

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

Hi Mike

Try this:

With the XP CD in the CD drive execute the two following commands from
Start>Run

expand E:\i386 sr.in_ c:windows\inf\sr.inf
expand E:\i386 srframe.mm_ c:\windows\system32\restore\srframe.mmf

Where E is the letter of your CD drive.
