System Restarts - Continually

Just downloaded two Windows updates for Windows XP Pro. After
restarting, the system stays up for about 10 seconds and then
reboots itself. It won't stay on long enough that I can go in
and check for the update numbers.

That wouldn't be the patch that M$ e-mailed you? Would it?

Nope, I went to www.microsoft.com and to the update download
page.

I experimented a bit, started in Safe Mode (My first time with XP)
and had an option to restore earlier settings. The options listed the
two updates and the one driver update. I selected the earliest for
today's date, did the restore and now it appears to be back to normal.

I checked the updates that caused the problem. They were:
KB 828750
KB 828026
and Driver Update: Generic Modem Software Update Oct 30, 2001

Wondering which caused the problem. Maybe I'll experiment further
tomorrow.
