N ow i have a hard drive in my cpu designated for system revovery but if i
upgraded 2 vista and then like some crazed omega virus attacks my cpu
(somehow) and i used the system revovery would i go back to media center
edition (the one i had before the vista)

How do you know that the Virus wont attack the recovery HD that resides in
your system??
How did you create this recovery HD.??..what program did you use??
How will you access this HD when your system fails to boot???
The best option is to use an external HD and image your Operating System
drive to it using a program like Acronis True Image.By means of a Recovery
CD if or when your system fails you then restore that image back to its
original location or onto a new HD.

Yes, the recovery partition is the OS that came with the computer (if it was
there by default). It wouldn't be upgraded to Vista. All changes were made
to the regular system volume. Usually, the recovery partitions are pretty
safe, and won't allow anything to be written over it, or erased (unless you
format it, etc).
