System Recovery failure

Hello all, need help on a destructive system recovery I am trying to complete
on my laptop. I have the regular xp home edition and I needed to do a
destructive system recovery. All went well until the about the middle of the
"finalizing" stage of the recovery when xp does a "searching for installed
hardware", and then the laptop freezes/locks up. Any help would be greatly
appreciated for a solution!!! Thanks.

due to it being a laptop
you will have to install
proprietary hardware /
device drivers from the
homesite of the machine.

you might also want to
check their faq's on their
methodology for restoring
your machine.

incidentally, the reason
for you installing the o.s.
is unclear.

perhaps, faulty/defective
hardware is the issue that
was causing your o.s.
and now the reinstallation
of the o.s. grief.

thanks for your replies db, long story short, reason for reinstalling os is
windows all of a sudden didnt let me put a cursor in any area where i needed
to type with the keyboard, ie forms etc. but it still let me use the mouse to
press buttons, use toolbars etc. got frustrated so i decided to backup and do
a system recovery. dont think it was a virus or any of that as i was pretty
good at keeping the laptop clean with Norton I.S. oh yeah, i did send an
email to gateway for help. thanks for that.

sounds like low memory.

perhaps it would be worth
a try if you boot into
safemode and test the
issue with notepad, word
pad and or word.

This may sound silly but... Are you working with a wireless mouse? Have the
batteries been replaced. I just had a client with the same issue and I had
her install new batteries and all is well.
