Hi

I am going to buy a new pc, for home personal use, photo editing, etc, am i
better off to have a 939 64 athlon or 754, or a P4 3.2-3.4? or what would
you suggest?
XP Home or XP Pro, for 1 system?
thanks

You are a cheesehead and a badger with too much money.
Why the high-end processor?
In any case, AMD tends to give more for your money.
No need for XP Pro based on what you have told us.

Yikes,
Being I'm so blessed with riches, what would you suggest for system ? Any
ideas appreciated.
thanks
$$$$$

When some other posters wryly suggested WebTV, they were only slightly
kidding.
A typical low-priced AMD 2200 chip and motherboard can be had for $100-$120,
believe it or not. Go for 512 MB of memory, just because it is so cheap, and
an 80 GB hard drive, because they are the norm (unless you want to store a
LOT of photos, or video).
Do not buy a brand-name off the shelf system. Have one built by a dependable
shop. That way, you get a "normal" version of XP OEM software, which has a
fully functional CD. Make sure you get the Product Key label with your
software, and place it on your computer case. Do not lose the label or CD or
you might regret it!
Use the money you save to get high-speed internet service, preferably cable.
And be sure to get antivirus software, which is available for free:

so you think i am way over doing it on one of these 2? which would you
choose? I inderstand it's my decision, just looking for why or why not?
thanks

With 939PIN Athlon3200 and your budget of around $1500 let me comeup with
configuration that does not affect the performance and cut the fluff to fit
the budget.

939 PIN ATHLON64 SYSTEMS

Basic Midtower case w/ 350W PS, front USB and Audio
Gigabyte K8NX-939 motherboard
Athlon64 3200+
512MB RAM

I think you are overdoing it because:
1. Your needs are much less than the capacities of these 2 systems. Would
you buy a Maserati to go to the grocery store?
2. In 2 years, fancy systems like #2 will be the norm, and cost half as
much.
Option #1 is a serious gaming machine, if you are into that.
Option #2 is a fairly high-end all-around machine, but not suited to
elaborate games.
I recommend spending about half as much money as option # 2.

One problem here where I am the shops start out at $1,000 and you go to 2,000
and pick in between,?? I want to burn dvds, cam corder and digital camera,
power point and photo shop, then the word processor program, even with dell,
the way i configure it with dual layer dvd tv in etc, still 1400-1800 for p4
3.2???? I just want a decent system now, not 3 years? i been ob the 4 wway
wait now. That's not an issue with your response, I seem to be handcuffed
unless i'm not looking?

Where I live, computers start at $400, not counting the monitor.
I was raised by very thrifty people, so I am not the technology
early-adopter type.
You will be very happy with computer option #2.

Well i guess i have to bite the bullet?

For the last few years I've favored AMDs.

Being a cheeshead & a badger too, checkout www.milwaukeepc.com. I am getting pieces for a new system now, bought a motherboard bundle from http://www.jncs.com/jnmain.php and the other parts from milwaukeepc (I live less than a mile from their local store).
