I am having the problem described in this MS knowledge-base article. Can
someone please tell me how to get the patch described? The KB article says I
have to contact Microsoft to get the hotfix and pay for support. I don't
want to pay for support, this is silly, why can't MS just post this patch? I
just want the patch. Help!

The Windows 2000 Server-based Terminal server stops responding and your CPU
usage for the System process approaches 100 percent when you connect to the
Windows 2000 Server-based Terminal server. See

Sorry, I'm not. Click on the link. I cannot get the hotfix from the website.
If I don't want to contact MS (by email or phone, and god knows how long
that's going to take) then how do I get the hotfix?

You don't. You must make the call.

Make the call. The phone system at MS will direct you to press one of the
digits if this is for a hotfix. You will need the technet article number
when you call (I'd print it out before calling). When I did this on
Exchange 5.5 a couple of months back, they never even asked for a credit
card since I had the Technet article number.

I called, they provided it without question. Thanks! I didn't know that was
so easy to do - I've never called to get a hotfix before.

If your support issue is actually resolved by the patch, then you won't
be charged for the incident. The support people know this and you can
make a point of verifying with them that they mark your case as
"non-decrementing" or whatever their word is for "don't charge".

Good Luck,
