System Process take 100% CPU time

I have a 633 MHZ, 256 Meg Ram computer using XP Pro. It
runs very slow and upon looking in the task manager the
system process is using all the available CPU time.
System Idle Process is 0%. I have SP1a loaded on the
computer and read about the hot fix to take care of this
problem. But even with the hot fix the problem comes back.
I am running Norton AV and have checked for spyware, the
system says it is clean. So what next?

As long as you have a 633 MHz processor you will experience slow performance
with XP. Also, 256 MB of RAM is acceptable, but 512 MB will offer much
better performance.

The machine worked great until loading SP1a and then this
problem came up, also with the hot fix it worked fine
(system process quit taking up all the CPU time). But with
the latest IE update it goes back to have system process
take all the CPU time. It is not the processor, but this
system process that is slowing it down. I run XP on a 450
MHz machine with 180 meg of ram and it works fine. And the
633 says it is only using 110 meg of ram while this
happens and no other programs are open. So I know it has
to do with the system process as all my other computers
running XP do not show this behavior faster or slower
processors.

The only one that runs at high %'s is system process,
System Idle is 0% and the system process runs at 90-99% of
the time. When trying to do anything it takes forever and
the system process stays at high CPU % time.

I am having the same issue. Fast computer, xp pro, no
virus or worm. ran all possible scenarios and even
reformatted hard drive. Tested memory. XP system still
ran at almost 100% slowing everything down and stays there
always even with no programs installed! I have been
learning to live with it. The last thing I can think of
is the cpu might be junked (2yrs old p3 955mhz), never had
a power surge either. Anyone know of this issue or a fix?

I finally just reloaded XP and have not done any updates
as of yet and it is running fine now. Next is SP1a to see
if it comes back.
