System Process 100% CPU after installing XP SP1

Hello

I recently bought a new case for my PC and installed everything into the new cage. After booting up the system I realized that the system became very slow. The taskmanager says that the System Process (not system idle process) is at 100% CPU usage ALL THE TIME. I thought that XP might require a whole new install and after installing XP from scratch everything worked fine until I installed XP SP1 using windows update. After that the System was back at 100%. Because I didn't enable the SP1 uninstall I had to reinstall everything again and the story repeated itself. Everything works fine until I install XP SP1. System Process is again back to 100% usage

All the rest looks good. No conlicts in device manager or any other suspicious things

I have no idea anymore how to solve the problem, so I hope somebody will be able to help me out here

Thanks in advance

....I just uninstalled XP SP1a to see if CPU usage goes back to normal and YES it does. Unfortunately I guess I require SP1 so I'm still lacking a solution to my problem.

Install the rest of the updates from Windows Update. There are many
additional fixes that address your problem. Remember, until you have them
all you have an incomplete system.

The only other thing that I noticed yesterday on my system is that when I open the root directory of one of my harddrives (not the system drive - a separate disk) in windows explorer, windows explorer often hangs so I have to end it via taskmanager. When I open the harddrive's root directory e.g. by typing e: in cmd everything works fine. Also when I try to copy some files from the harddrive it gives me the following error message:

Cannot copy file. The drive cannot find the sector requested.

Not sure if this is because of the original problem (CPU@100%) or if this is just another problem I have.

Again, thanks a lot in advance for your help! I'm really in need for a solution here.

Y.

I found this on a website and installed it. It did the trick for me

the site is:

SP1 Slowdown Hotfix

Q815411 fixes a flaw in Windows XP SP1. Changes to memory handling code
result in programs which often allocate memory (which is many of them)
can take up to ten times longer than normal to start. This Hotfix will
be incorporated into SP2 when it is released. Install this update after
installing SP1.

Cause: Sometimes process shows 100% usage and run slow
For resolving this problem follow the following instruction:

Open the registry, find the key below and put minus in front of it

System Key: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}

Note: Restart Windows for the changes to take effect
