system locks up when trying to retrieve images from a dvd

I seem to be having a problem getting images from dvd's ...i thought the
first time that it was just the dvd so i had her to redo it. But even with
the second dvd i am still having a problem. This is a newly built computer
with an amd 64 3200+ processor, an msi mb, 1 gig ram, 3 internal drives and 1
external
I have also recently had a problem with windows not letting me use my
printer. I purchased a brand new one thinking that was the problem, but the
new one wont work either. Any ideas?
 
On the dvd, don't assume it is on your end....how did the person make it
(software)? Do you have identical software?

You have to explain "not letting me use my printer" better
