System keeps rebooting

When you turn on the computer it boots up but then flashes an error message
(whole page) really fast and I can't read it. Then it starts the whole
process again. I can't get to START to get the product ID off the computer
(it's my nephew's). Help!

Disable automatic restart on system failure (on SP2): Press F8 on restart, and see the menu item to disable auto restart. Restart,
and when the STOP message appears, record information needed for further troubleshooting.
