the hardware configration of my pc is 80gb hdd ram and 512mb ram
and i am using windows xp and these days my system is running very
slow

Carry out routine maintenance like hard drive defragmenting, emptying
recycle bin, deleting temp internet files etc. Additionally, scan for
viruses, spyware, etc on a routine basis (eg daily, weekly - whatever you
like).

Keep your PC updated with security fixes.

Try www.ccleaner.com for an excellent "crap cleaner" utility (ccleaner =
crap cleaner).
