System Information

Hi,
When I click Start/Accessories/SystemTools/System Information, the help
and support window appears. If I type msinfo in Start/Run, same thing
happens. If I click on msinfo32.exe in the common files/microsoft
shared/msinfo folder same thing happens. Where has my msinfo gone ?

Hi Roy,

Depends, sad to say. Start here:

Checkpoints:

Go to Start/Run and type in: winmsd

Verify your settings here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSInfo
Path value = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\msinfo32.exe

Default value = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSInfo\MSInfo32.exe
Path value = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo

Fix for Help and Support and System Information
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fixwinxphelp.htm

Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: net stop winmgmt. Then delete
the %windir&\system32\wbem\repository directory. Once done go back to
Start/Run/CMD and type in: net start winmgmt

Error Message: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Might Be Corrupted

If none of the above helps, replace your Boot.ini. This issue has been
related.

Check if the index.dat file is present in msinfo32
C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache
If missing, copy it from another XP machine.

Meanwhile, there's a backdoor way of accessing System Info - try this link
in Internet Explorer -
hcp://system/sysinfo/msinfo.htm
