System Information

In 98, Start-Accessories-SystemTools-SystemInformation was
having the list of start up items and if we removed the
tickmark in front of anyone, that does not get loaded at
startup.

In xp, the system information - software environment - start
up items don't have any provision of setting or removing check.

Some items are appearing in this list (say, nero check,
microsoft office,...) which I don't want it to autimatically
run at startup.

How do I disable automatic running of these items at startup.

TIA.

In most cases, particularly with "well-mannered" applications, it's
usually as simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the
option to "display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows
starts."

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
