System Information

My 'System Information' short-cut used to show 'System Information'.
It now opens the 'Help and Support Center' window.

I've tried a System Restore, no joy.
Have tried running Msinfo32.exe too but still get a 'Help and Support
Center' window.

If i run msinfo32 /categories +all -loadedmodules then I can get it to work,
but it runs inside the 'Help and Support Center' window.

I've also been asking for help here

You may or may not be able to fix this. I can't fix mine.

It used to work but a Windows Critical Update screwed it up.
I don't know which CU is the culprit. Doesn't matter, it's screwed up.

This works. It's what I use.

Go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read instructions at the top.
Scroll down to and Click on:
172. Msinfo32 Batch File - To Gain Access

Unzip and save it where ever | Create a shortcut | Place the shortcut in
your Start Menu, Desktop or where ever | Click the shortcut to open msinfo32
Saves typing it in the Start | Run box every time.

Also in case any of this may work for you.....

Go here:

Scroll down to:
Can't Open Msinfo32
Read the info.

Thanks have tried that already by running

msinfo32 /categories +all -loadedmodules

as i said it opens up inside the 'Help and Support Center' window, but would
be nice if I can get it to workthe way it used too.

Widey.

Curious behavior, Wesley. I have all updates designated as critical
installed, yet msinfo32 does not open in a Help & Support window on any of
my systems. I have however, seen it act this way on a WinXP Home system (all
of my personal systems are Pro).

Hi Rick,

Curious, indeed. My machine must be possessed. I am currently running XP
Pro. I've had this problem with both XP Home & Pro installed on this
machine.

If it wasn't a common problem, Kelly wouldn't have the msinfo_force_run.bat
file available. ;-)

I also have other XP problems that exist(ed) in both Home and Pro on this
same machine. I have long ago given up on any fixes. I just swear a
little, ignore them and keep on trucking.

I got a copy of the index.dat file from another person and pasted it into
\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache.

Start | Run | msinfo32 now opens System Information.

System Information even works from MS Word | Help | About MS Word.

A Critical Update had *nothing* to do with this problem like I thought and
have been posting for I don't know how long. ;-(
