System has recovered from a Serious Error

J

John D.

My XP home edition has recently decided to shutdown my
computer at regular intervals. Sometimes it restarts and
at other times it doesn't.
When it does restart it states 'Your system has recovered
from a serious error.'
The problem is exactly as outlined in MS Knowledge Base
Article - 317277, however my system won't accept the
Recovery Patch attached to this article and none of the
workarounds seem to work.
Any suggestions?
Help me please!!!

It's for this very reason that I turn the error reporting
off. MS has enough geeks helping they don't need us.
go>start\control panel\system\advanced tab\error reporting
button\put a dot in "disable error reporting" and a
checkmark should appear in "but notify me when critical
errors occur" That should fix it for you. Have fun.

I forgot to mention. While in there go to the settings
button under startup and recovery on the advanced tab and
under system failure just put a checkmark in "send and
administrative alert" and under "write debugging
information" click the drop down list arrow and select
none. You and millions of us don't know what to do with
the debugging stuff anyway. This saves space and stops a
lot of the reboot on error stuff. Have fun.
