System Hangs at Startup

I know there have been a lot of threads like this one lately, but
think my situation might be a little different. I'm using xp pro sp
and until a couple days ago everything was working fine. Then one day
went to use my computer and noticed it was off (I had not shut it off)
Then when I tried to load windows the system hanged permanently at th
logo screen. The bar just keeps moving indefinitely. At first, I wa
able to load windows under safe mode, but now the system hangs eve
when I try to do that. The list of drivers shows up and then it jus
hangs on one of them.

Moreover, when I try booting from the xp cd and using the console to d
chkdsk, windows doesn't recognize my hard disks. This might be becaus
they are in a RAID configuration, but I'm not sure.

If I just reinstall windows, I will have to format the disks, right?
don't want to do that. Any suggestiosn?

Thanks a bunch.

Here are my specs:
XP Pro SP2
Athlon FX 53 939 pin
Radeon X800 xt
2x SATA Samsung 80GB 7200 rpm hdd
2x ocz enhanced latency PC3200 512MB memory stick

It probably hangs because it can't find the boot disk. Check your raid
configuration.
