System hang ups.

I hope this isn't a double post.

When I go to http://snopes.com/ and click on what's new, it kills IE. I go
to the task manager and it says Snopes.com not responding. End task, bring
up IE and its fine until I do a repeat of the above. I can click anyplace
else on Snopes and it works ok? Also I can not sign in to
http://www.excite.com/ which I have been using for years. Excite gives me
the following message

The browser you're using is not allowing you to sign in to Excite.
Right now, your browser's settings are configured to disable cookies and/or
javascript. In order to access your account, you must change your browser's
settings to accept both cookies AND javascript.

Where is my javascript settings?

Anti Virus program(AVG 6.0)and Spy ware programs(Ad-Ware and Spy Bot)
checks ok several times. Security is set to Medium. Deleted ALL the cookies
and still NG. MS patch level is current. Disc drive tests out good.

System hangs when trying to delete the offline tmp internet files thru
Tools/ Options. I manually deleted all the tmp files by Search *.tmp.

System still hangs when trying to delete the offline tmp internet files thru
Tools/ Options. It only seems to effect trying to delete the offline tmp
internet files thru Tools/ Options.

I just re-installed MS IE and installed the updates and the condition has
not changed.

What next, re-install WIN 2K? If so, what am I looking at?

Can I install it over itself?

What will I lose?

Go to AVG7 and upload the latest virus protection. What
firewall are you using? You may need to reinstall but without
a reliable firewall and uptodate antivirus, you'll soon be back
in the same boat.

This advice doesn't help me to fix my current problem.

Internet Options/Advanced, select Java You may need to install Sun Java
--------------------

Remember: Javascript and Java are two different things. Installing Sun Java
VM will not help here

---------------------

The quickest way to see if there is a security issue here is to add the
problem website to the Trusted Sites zone on the Security tab.
If you still have issues, consider restoring IE settings by clicking
"Restore Defaults" on the Advanced tab.
Also, play with your cookies settings, you might need to lower the security
here.
