Two temp files which can't be deleted

~DF70c8.tmp and ~DF8059.tmp both reside in my Temp folder in Docs and
Settings | Administrators. I can't delete these files and there are no
programs to open them with. . I get the error message when trying to open
with Word Pad that the tiles are in use by another application and cannot be
accessed. How to I find out what program is creating these files?

Put df .tmp files in the search box of a search engine, such as Google.
You should be able to find your answer.

I've tried that. I get links to other people's Hijack This! logs but nothing
I can use.

Using the "Process Explorer" from http://sysinternals.com one can:

Find -> Find Handle. Enter ~df in the text field and then press "Search".
The process that opened each of the files will be identified to you very
clearly.

Per Filemon, it looks like the files are being created by explorer.exe. I
don't really understand what I'm seeing here.

There are different ways that you can try to delete the files.

1- Try in Safe-Mode.

2- Use the Task Manager and kill Explorer.exe and its whole process
tree. Then, from the Task Manager, start a command prompt session and
use the DEL command to delete the files. Then restart Expolrer.exe with
the Task Manager.

3- Try third party tools like Cedrick Collomb's Unlocker.

I don't totally understand what I'm seeing but thank you for turning me on
to this software.

Fair enough.
Here is one link if you use MS AntiSpyware:

BTW, VirtualDr.com is an excellent help group.
Google gives many links and I can't find the other one that I thought was
really relevent, sorry.
If you don't get the solution here, try the VirtualDr forum. It is really
good.
