System Freezes

I've built a system and now having problems with it freezing now and then,
I've done the following to eliminate certain hardware components.

Replaced CDRW Drive
Replaced Primary and Secondary IDE Cables
Replaced Modem
Replaced Monitor
Replaced Keyboard & Mouse
Updated BIOS
Installed VIA 4 in 1 Drivers
Ran HDD Diagnostic tool from Seagate
Disabled FDD

And it still Freezes, if froze before applying the Windows Update, so I
gather it wasn't a update patch from Microsoft and downloaded them all.

If it was faulty ram I would get a BSOD wouldn't I??

So I am left with the Video Card, Mobo,CPU and ram, maybe the PSU but the
fan is running ok.

Could it be the Mobo? I don't have a spare one to try?

Thanks for any help

Bad RAM does not necessarily BSOD. Can just freeze with
no trace left in Event Viewer. Google up 'MemTest86', a
freebie utility to test RAM. What Graphics card are you
using? Any particular apps that hang-up more than others?

It's a Chaintech 128MB GeForce4 MX4000 AGP Card using the latest drivers
from Nvidia's website.

1st time if froze I was playing Solitaire, 2nd time I was transferring files
over the network, 3rd time I was hlaf way through installing Office 2003,
4th time I was installing Windows update patches, the only thing I can do
when this happens is flick the switch.

Another thing of interest is that I'm using a L4VXA2 Mobo
http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/l4vxa2.html

It says it supports DDR333/266 Memory, but I'm using DDR400, I've changed
the memory to another DDR400 and it still froze using Windows update, would
the different memory speeds be a problem?

NO. There is no time for an error message with faulty ram and/or faulty
video card and/or faulty video card drivers. If either is bad, you just
hard lock.
