System freezes when booting windows or windows installing program

So, after putting my newly upgraded computer into it's place, everything runs
just fine! An Asus K8V SE Deluxe, socket 754 with an AMD Athlon 64 2800+
Newcastle with 1024mb PC3200 400mhz RAM & gf4-ti4200 128ram gfx, is the final
product(including win xp sp2, Avest Antivirus).

Now to the problem: After spending two hours of playing the computergame
Neverwinter Nights, i decide to quit and do something else. So i press ESC
and "Exit game" - the screen goes blank! Overheated? The temperatures are
around 45c degrees for the CPU and 38c~ on the mobo/chassi - so that shouldnt
be the problem.

A small detail that may can have been causing it: Before this, i tried to
switch some of the HD's drive letters, hence one of them contained the
SWAP-file, which i though deactivated before the reboot. But during the
reboot i was told that a certain operation wasnt needed/fulfilled (it looked
like the UI in scandisk, but unfortunately i cant remember what it said - but
it seemed to be an info-note, definitely not an error-warning).As the
operation wasnt completed succesfully, the driver letters was still the same.
I then realized i could do this using a feature in "Computer Management" -
and that went instantly like a charm(these operations was of course before me
playing my game).

After my computer hung, i tried to restart it, and it seemed to be booting
up as regular again - but, just 1 or 2 seconds before the loginscreen should
come up, the Num Lock-, Caps Lock- and Scroll Lock key all flashing once,
just as you would reboot manually, but the screen goes black and nothing more
happends. Trying booting up under Safe Mode or Last known good config didnt
work either. I tried chaning the Boot.ini with adding /Sos, so i can see what
drivers are being loaded.
So this is the last two lines i see:

First one says "acpispy.sys"
Second and last, "Loading d347.sys, press ESC to cancel"

The acpispy.sys sounds like some type of spyware, but other things indicates
that something isnt right:

When trying to reinstall Win XP, it loads all of the drivers from the "press
F6 for raid/scsi..", and when the program has loaded all of the driver, it
says "setup is loading windows" - two seconds after that i get the
3-button-blinking syndrom - even if i disconnect the HDD's and all other
unnecessary IO-components.

Memtest indicates no errors, my logfile when trying to boot up window
normally, ends with "Did not load driver direct parall", there the log-file
ends.

When running some other useful tools from the "Ultimate Recovery CD", I in
some programs get messages that concerns Mounting my filesystem, but my
cables are correct - and this still happends when ive detached al HDD's. I
did though, get the BSOD about unmounted_boot_volume when trying to overclock
some settings in bios, but it disappeared when i set them back to normal
again. Ive also flashed back the BIOS with the vendor-CD.

Im sorry for the extremely long post, but im kind of disappointed at the
behaviour of the new toys i bought. The thing that bugs me the most, is that
everything was running fine - and then in a millisec it was all bad, all
totally unexpected!

I hope there is someone out there who can help me with this. The life of a
poor Student would become alot better and easier then.

Hi Mattias,
First one says "acpispy.sys"
Second and last, "Loading d347.sys, press ESC to cancel"

I don't know if it helps you, but i my WinXP Pro also had a problem
with that driver. It froze at the progress bar screen where it says
WinXP loading on a black background color.

After i had removed the SCSI driver (i have no scsi card) in the safe
boot mode devicemanager the problem vanished :)

Bye
Stefan

Since this thread is the only link on google following a search for the
above system file, it might be useful to note that this issue also
seems to be caused by a faulty, or misconfigured IDE device. A CDRW
drive, for example.
