I can't boot into safe mode.

When I try to boot into safe mode, lots of text shows on my screen
saying that it's loading drivers and such. Then it gets to a line
saying that it is loading "giveio.sys" and under it for a second shows
"Press ESC to cancel loading STMP.sys" or something along those lines.
I have tried pressing escape to cancel that, and also letting it load.
Either way it stops there, I can see my HDD light on my case blinking,
but even if I leave my machine on and try to let it work (I've tried
for 20 minutes, I know sometimes it can take a while) and nothing
happened. I have also tried manually adding a safe mode option to the
boot.ini file and tried to boot with that option. That gets me a
seemingly lower resolution Windows "Flag" screen. But it doesn't bring
up XP. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if I can assist you
by giving more information.

Why are you trying to boot into safe mode ?

Not much info regarding need to use Safe Mode - Do instructions to load the
drive suggest Safe Mode? If you tried installing via normal mode what was
the result - shut down - error, etc.? Have you considered System Restore? or
repair option ia the XP CD (not Recovery Console).

The reason I am trying to do it in safe mode is because in the help
file at their site, it suggests installing it in safe mode if the
driver will not load otherwise.

That worked perfectly, thanks. I didn't even need to
uninstall/reinstall ProtoWall. I just uninstalled the driver and
reinstalled it from c:\protowall.

But is it still possible to get any input on why I can't get into safe
mode? Just the fact that it won't boot annoys me. I like to have
everything working as it should.

Now that the system is working , have you tried safe mode ? - it could
be that the *error* was stopping safe mode loading .

I haven't tried yet, but when I do I'll post back and let you know
what's up.
